We met in 1990. Laurie had just graduated from the University of Wisconsin and was preparing to apply to law school. John was a young general counsel at XL/Datacomp, a fast-growing computer reseller. Laurie's father, an executive at XL/Datacomp, asked John if he could find a role for Laurie while she applied to law school, so John became Laurie's first boss. They became associates and family friends during their brief tenure at XL/Datacomp, but thereafter lost touch as they enjoyed raising their families and pursuing their careers in different parts of the country and world. Several decades later they reconnected, and over time became close friends. And then . . . love happened.
